On the development of the collection catalogue
What began as a collection that has grown over more than three decades has now been systematically recorded, documented, and placed within an art-historical context. Following the complete inventory of all works by Josef Floch in the Ysabel Sureth Collection (YSC), the desire arose to present this concentrated body of work for the first time in a dedicated collection catalogue.
The reproduction photography was carried out by Jörg von Bruchhausen during a two-day shoot in November 2022. The result is a precise, work-focused documentation that renders the surface textures and chromatic nuances of Floch’s paintings and drawings with remarkable differentiation. Based in Stahnsdorf/Berlin, Jörg von Bruchhausen specializes in the photographic documentation of artworks, exhibitions, and architectural spaces. His references demonstrate an established professional network that includes museums such as the National Museums in Berlin, foundations such as the Bernhard Heiliger Foundation, galleries including Galerie Max Hetzler, Galerie Michael Werner, Galerie Bastian, and Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, as well as artists’ studios, private collections, and architects.
For the introductory essay on the life and work of Josef Floch in the Ysabel Sureth Collection 1992–2023 catalogue, the Vienna-based Floch expert Dr. Marianne Hussl-Hörmann was invited to contribute.
The catalogue design by Laura Därr gives this collection a visual form that combines clarity and restraint in a wonderfully compelling way.
